Throughout 2020, Josh Emerson, a good pal of Stephen Darby’s, has been taking on a massive challenge in support of Darbs and the Foundation. After COVID dashed his original plans, he could have given up. Instead, he turned his challenge into something quite remarkable. We will let Josh take the story from here.
‘At the start of 2020, I signed up for the Manchester Marathon in order to raise money for the Darby Rimmer MND Foundation. However, like many others I had to change my plans slightly.
The marathon preparations had me running much more than I ever had and I was slowly but surely building up a decent tally of total miles. So, in the spirit of my Scottish heroes and fellow Hibees, The Proclaimers, I decided to run to 500 miles…and then run 500 more! And to add a bit of pressure, I set myself the deadline of reaching 1000 miles by the end of the year.
I’d be lying if I said the first 500 were a breeze, but they certainly weren’t as gruelling as the last 500 which were predominantly under the relentless Manchester rain. However, with the support of friends and family and the motivation that each donation to the Just Giving page gave me, I made it to 992 miles by the 30th of December. On the final day of the year, I completed the last 8 miles of the challenge in the snow, with our unimpressed and cold puppy waiting for me at the end.
Thank you to everyone who supported me and donated to the fantastic Darby Rimmer MND Foundation as it continues to attack MND by raising awareness, funding research and supporting patients..”
Massive thanks to Josh who raised over £1000 for the Foundation through his efforts.
