In March 2023, we launched “The Chris Rimmer Grant” in memory of our co-founder, Chris Rimmer.
When Chris was diagnosed he wanted to help and support others who were diagnosed with mnd. Throughout his battle with mnd he knew how difficult it was to receive support especially as the disease progresses and individuals and families need to start making changes such as house adaptations. The Chris Rimmer Grant is aimed at supporting individuals and families to support them as they adapt to the daily challenges of mnd. In March 2023, Rob and Louise O’Hara received The Chris Rimmer Grant of £10,000. The grant was used so Rob and Louise could adapt their house to help with the daily challenges of mnd. Below are some words from Rob and Louise on how the grant has helped them as a family.
“The grant receive from Darby Rimmer MND foundation has massively helped my family in the hardest year of our life. My husband Rob was diagnosed with MND when I was 7 months pregnant with our first child. What was meant to be one of the happiest times quickly turned into a nightmare, juggling unimaginable changes to our life and planning for for worst to come. Robs symptoms progressed quickly and we needed to urgently adapt our house to be suitable for him. These adaptations all took place while I was on maternity leave, what was meant to be a time focused on our baby became project management and living in a building site. Our friends and family rallied round to raise funds to help us afford the essential changes, but when we received the grant it put us all at ease that we could complete the project in a timely manner and took the pressure off. We are eternally grateful for the kindness and support of being awarded that grant, when we were in such an emotional whirlwind of a year it showed us there is hope to make our lives that bit easier”
