In March this year (2024), we staged the first March of the Day event between Bradford City and Liverpool.
The event was an amazing success with 800 walkers taking part including over 60 footballers, past and present. Over £200,000 was raised for the Foundation. We are going again next year. On March 21, a core team of over 30 including Steph Houghton, Matt Holland, Jay Spearing, Chris Kirkland, Filipe Morais, Martin Kelly and Stuart Barlow will set out from Wembley Stadium on a 178 mile walk around 26 football grounds in London and Essex before finishing at Portman Road, Ipswich on the evening of March 23. They will be joined by many ex-pros along the walk like Ipswich and England stalwarts Russell Osman and Terry Butcher.
The event is once again backed by the PFA, and we are working with all the clubs on the route. Almost all of them are set to open up their grounds and welcome the walkers on their arrival. As with this year’s event, walkers can join in teams of up to six and can pick any daytime stages to walk. We already have over 230 walkers taking part and that number has been growing steadily. As with this year, we expect this to be covered in detail by the BBC and possibly more news outlets.
Come and join us as we walk around the capital via some of the biggest clubs in the country like Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Crystal Palace. Join us as we visit some of the smaller clubs like Wingate and Finchley, Hornchurch or Braintree Town. Come and be part of something very special. Come and help us bang the drum against MND. Find out more and register your team at our website below. Let’s #AttackMND together.
Registration is officially open and we will start our process of engaging with all the teams along the route to be part of our second major fundraising walk. The event in 2024 raised a staggering £200,000 for the Darby Rimmer MND Foundation. Our aim in 2025 is to take that beyond a quarter of a million pounds.
We will be inviting many former footballers to show their support for Stephen and Marcus and the MND Community by joining us for this walk.
